Maddie is 'bravest girl in the world'
Maddie is 'bravest girl in the world'. An Australian policewoman who found Madeleine Pulver with a suspected bomb chained to her neck has described the teenager as "the bravest girl in the world".Constable Karen Lowden was hailed a hero after she sat with the 18-year-old and kept her calm while bomb disposal experts tried to defuse the suspect device.Speaking for the first time about the ordeal, the young mother-of-one said Miss Pulver was "quite distressed" when she first arrived at her Sydney home.
But she described the student as "very brave".
"She did everything right - she was just an amazing person," she added. "I'd say she is the strongest girl in the world at the moment."
"She was quite distressed but she held herself so well and was composed.
"She knew what she had to do to get through that situation."
Police were called to the Pulver family's multimillion-dollar mansion in the wealthy north shore suburb of Mosman after a balaclava-clad man entered the property and fixed what was thought to be a bomb and a ransom note to Madeleine before fleeing at 2.30pm (local time) on Wednesday.
Constable Lowden was the first police officer on the scene but was adamant she was not a hero, saying she did what any other of her colleagues in the force would have done.
"I didn't feel like a heroine. You have to deal with the unexpected in this job. You knew there was a girl that needed help," she said.
"I had to reassure Maddie I was there for her and I told her she was very brave. I said it was a different situatiion for both of us and we needed to get through that process.
"Having a child myself I knew I wanted to be there for her.
"It didn't feel like a different job and I had the full support of my colleagues who were amazing. I never felt like I was alone.
"She is the bravest girl in the world."
